What a 7-day retreat like this usually involves
A 7-day retreat is long enough to settle into a routine: most weeks follow a fixed daily timetable with morning practice, free time or activities in the middle of the day, and a slower session in the evening. Expect one lighter day for rest or an excursion, and count arrival and departure days as part of the 7, so ask how many full days of classes there are.
This programme pairs yoga with Traditional Chinese Medicine sessions. Treat these as wellness sessions rather than medical care: tell the practitioner about any condition or medication you take, and keep your own doctor for anything medical. Read what Ayurveda is and how it relates to yoga for the background.
Besides yoga, the published programme lists a cooking day. If any of these is new to you, ask what a session involves; on most retreats you can sit out a session that does not suit you.
The published group size is up to 10 guests. A group this small usually means the teacher can adjust classes to the people in the room, but it also fills quickly.
Questions to ask Rich Spirit Yoga Studio before you book
- What is not covered by the published price? Flights, transfers, some meals and paid activities are often extra.
- Is the deposit refundable, and until what date?
- How many places are left on your dates, and what is the minimum number of guests for the retreat to run?
- Who teaches the yoga, how long have they taught, and what level are the classes pitched at?
- Can the classes be adapted for an injury, a health condition or pregnancy?
- How do guests get from the nearest airport to the venue, and is the transfer included?
- What is the cancellation policy if you need to pull out, and does it allow a transfer to a later date?
How it compares with the other retreats we list
Length: at 7 days, it sits at the long end of the 7 retreats we list, which run from 4 to 7 days; 3 other retreats are the same length.
Location: 4 other retreats we list are in Siargao. If you would rather take drop-in classes, see yoga studios in Siargao.
Price: 4 of the 7 retreats publish a price. Their lowest listed figures run from USD 377 to 2,700, and this one is the highest. Organisers price on different terms (per person, per booking, by room type), so compare what each price includes rather than the figure alone.
Getting there from Manila
Fly from Manila (MNL) to Sayak (IAO), or connect through Cebu (CEB). From the airport, General Luna is reached by road. Check current flight and ferry schedules before you book, and allow for weather delays between June and November.
