Which yoga style is right for me? Take the quiz
This free quiz asks seven short questions, one per screen, about what you want from yoga, how fit you feel, how you handle heat, and the pace and class length you prefer. Each answer adds points to one or more styles, and you land on the style with the highest score, plus studios that teach it.
Question 1 of 7
What do you want most from yoga right now?
All results: Hatha · Vinyasa · Ashtanga · Hot and Bikram · Aerial · Kundalini · Yin and restorative
How does the style quiz work?
The quiz has seven questions, one per screen. Each answer carries points for one or more styles. Choosing “to sweat and get stronger”, for example, adds points to vinyasa, ashtanga and hot yoga, while “to calm down and sleep better” leans towards yin and hatha. After the last question, the style with the most points becomes your result. You can step back a question at any time.
What are the seven possible results?
Each result has its own page with a short description and studios that teach the style:
- Hatha: steady, held poses with clear alignment cues.
- Vinyasa: breath-linked flow that changes from class to class.
- Ashtanga: a set sequence practised in the same order.
- Hot and Bikram: classes in a heated room.
- Aerial: poses supported by a fabric hammock.
- Kundalini: breath, movement, chanting and meditation.
- Yin and restorative: long, quiet holds close to the floor.
For a wider look at where these come from, read the overview of the different types of yoga.
How should you read your result?
Treat it as a place to start, not a label. The quiz only knows seven answers, and the styles overlap. A slow hatha class at one studio can feel like yin at another, and a gentle vinyasa can feel like hatha. If your result surprises you, compare the two closest styles in the hatha vs vinyasa guide, then book one class of each.
Try a style at least two or three times before deciding. The first class is mostly about learning the room, the teacher and the names of poses.
What are the limits of the quiz?
The quiz does not know your health history. If you have an injury, pain, a heart condition or are pregnant, ask your doctor before starting, and tell the teacher before class. Hot yoga in particular is not for everyone: drink water, leave the room if you feel dizzy, and check with your doctor if you are pregnant or have a heart condition. When you are ready, find a class near you in the Philippine yoga studio directory.
Questions
Can you retake the yoga style quiz and get a different result?
Yes. The result depends only on your answers, so a different mood or goal can point to a different style. That is normal. Many people keep one active style and one slower style in the same week.
What if two styles tie in the quiz?
Ties go to the style listed first in this order: hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, hot, aerial, kundalini, yin. If you suspect a tie, read the result pages for both styles and try a class of each.
Does the style quiz work for complete beginners?
Yes. Answer honestly about how fit or stiff you feel today. Every style has beginner classes, so ask the studio which session suits a first timer before you book.
