Your style: Hatha
Hatha suits you: poses held for a few breaths each, clear instructions and an unhurried pace. It is where most people learn the shapes properly before speeding up.
In a hatha class you come into a pose, stay for several breaths, and come out before the next. That pause gives you time to notice where your weight sits and to hear the alignment cues. It is a good match if you feel stiff, want to learn the basics properly, or simply prefer a calm room.
Start with the beginner sequence at home, read what hatha yoga is, and look for classes labelled hatha, gentle or fundamentals in the studios below.
Hatha is also the broadest label on a timetable. Some studios use it for a slow, alignment-led class; others use it for any class that is not a flow. Read the class description, and if it says gentle, basics or fundamentals, it is pitched at new students. A typical hour opens with a few minutes of breathing, moves through standing poses and a balance, then seated and floor work, and ends with a long rest in corpse pose.
What to try in your first hatha class
Pick a class labelled hatha, gentle or basics, and arrive ten minutes early so you can tell the teacher it is your first class and mention any injury. Take a block and a strap even if you think you will not need them: in a hatha class the props are there to help you find the shape, not as a sign you are behind.
Expect to learn a handful of poses you will see again in every style: mountain pose, downward dog, a warrior, tree pose and a seated forward bend. If a cue does not make sense, watch the teacher once and then try it. Stay for the final rest; it is part of the class.

Hatha yoga: questions
Is a hatha class enough of a workout on its own?
It depends on the teacher and on what you want. A hatha class builds strength through holding poses rather than through pace, so your legs and shoulders do work, but your heart rate stays lower than in a flow class. Many people pair it with walking, running or a gym day.
How many hatha classes before moving on to vinyasa?
There is no set number. Once you can do a sun salutation without stopping to look at the teacher, and you know the names of the common standing poses, a slow or beginner vinyasa class will feel manageable. Some people stay with hatha for years because they prefer the pace.
Why does the hatha quiz result suit stiff beginners?
Because each pose is held for a few breaths with time to set up, you can use props, bend your knees and ask questions without falling behind. That makes it easier to learn safe alignment before you speed up.
